Agricultural careers fairs are not just gatherings; they are dynamic hubs where students, professionals, and industry leaders converge to exchange ideas, showcase innovations, and explore career possibilities. Imagine walking through a vibrant school buzzing with energy, booths adorned with banners depicting the latest in agricultural technology, and passionate experts eager to share their knowledge.
On the 6th of June 2024 Poultry Hub attended the Tamworth and district careers advisers’ network agricultural careers expo. With over 1,200 students from surrounding Tamworth schools as well as schools from Coonabarabran, Inverell, Armidale, Glen Innes, Upper Hunter, the Coast, and as far north as Tenterfield it was a great way to showcase the Poultry Industry and all the exciting careers the poultry industry have to offer. Students were engaged and were requesting to do work experience in various poultry avenues.
There were over 45 industry experts, educational organisations, and universities so it was also a great way for the poultry hub to network with other organisations and collaborate with other members within the poultry industry.
For students, these fairs are invaluable. They provide a firsthand look into the multifaceted world of agriculture, offering insights into everything from traditional farming practices to cutting-edge robotics. Workshops and seminars educated attendees on topics ranging from soil health management to agricultural policy, preparing the next generation of agricultural leaders for the challenges and opportunities ahead.
On the 18th of July Carissa represented PHA to participate in the UNE’s farming futures. The event is run by students for students and delivers the message that agricultural careers are truly exciting. Farming futures have many graduate and work experience opportunities available for tertiary students.
It was a great way to be able to network with peers, discover emerging trends, and recruit talented individuals eager to make a difference in the industry. It was an opportunity for Poultry Hub to showcase the career paths within the poultry industry and cut through some of the stereotypes that have been affiliated with the poultry industry. We were able to showcase the many careers within the poultry industry including roles in research and development, sustainable farming practices, agricultural agribusiness, and agricultural engineering.
The agriculture careers expo and farming futures not only showcased the jobs available within the industry but also cultivated passion for the industry and showed students the opportunities available to them – from work experience to university degrees and internships available. It was a great opportunity for students to explore the endless opportunities available and to network with like-minded individuals. It was also a great opportunity for the industry to network and collaborate.
